On September 1, 2020, the People’s Committee of Binh Thuan province issued a document allowing foreign visitors to travel to Phu Quy Island without the need for a border entry permit from the provincial police. This is a significant step towards the rapid and sustainable development of Phu Quy, particularly in the tourism sector.
In recent years, although the number of visitors to Phu Quy for sightseeing and tourism has been increasing, it has mainly consisted of domestic tourists. Foreign visitors or overseas Vietnamese who wanted to visit Phu Quy Island were required to obtain an entry permit according to the regulations. This has been one of the obstacles that made it difficult for Phu Quy to attract international tourists to explore and travel.
To facilitate foreign visitors and overseas Vietnamese coming to the island, on September 1, 2020, the People’s Committee of Binh Thuan province agreed to the policy of allowing foreign visitors to travel to Phu Quy Island without the need for a border entry permit from the provincial police. At the same time, they strengthened inspections and controls to closely manage the activities and residency of foreign visitors on Phu Quy Island, taking preventive measures against any threats to national security and the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Creating favorable conditions for foreign visitors to travel to Phu Quy Island without the need for a border entry permit will help attract international tourists to Phu Quy as it has become a provincial-level tourist destination.
