The National Flagpole on Phú Quý Island is located in Triều Dương Hamlet, Tam Thanh Commune (Phú Quý District). Standing 22.6 meters tall, it is made of reinforced concrete and faces the sea.
Construction of the Phú Quý Flagpole began on June 17, 2015, on a plot of nearly 200 square meters at the eastern tip of Chuối Hill, overlooking Gành Hang Beach (Triều Dương Hamlet, Tam Thanh Commune). The structure consists of four main components: the base platform, the flagpole shaft, the steps, and the surrounding courtyard. The flagpole itself is made of iron, measuring 22.6 meters in height, with a flag size of 4 x 6 meters. The square-shaped base, 5.2 meters high, is built with reinforced concrete to ensure the flagpole’s stability. Its surface is clad in gray-white granite and adorned with two red flags with yellow stars, the national emblem, the name of the country, and the flagpole’s geographical coordinates. The surrounding steps and courtyard form a square layout facing the East Sea. The foundation, measuring about 10.24 m², is embedded deep into the bedrock using sturdy lighthouse-style construction techniques. The national flag, measuring 4 x 6 meters, is made from durable fabric to withstand strong sea winds. At the time of its construction, the total investment for the flagpole project on Phú Quý Island was over 1.26 billion VND.
This structure holds deep significance for the nation, serving as a powerful symbol of patriotism. It plays an important role in promoting love for the homeland, national pride, and awareness of the responsibility to protect maritime sovereignty—especially among the island’s youth and residents.
The Phú Quý Flagpole not only affirms Vietnam’s sovereignty over the island, but also carries a strong educational message about patriotism. It helps instill ideals, belief, and a deep sense of duty in the younger generation to safeguard the sacred maritime territories of the homeland. Moreover, the flagpole has become a unique and attractive destination for visitors from near and far.
