What Should Children Keep in Mind When Taking the High-Speed Ferry to Phú Quý Island?

Since June 1, 2023, on the ferry route from the mainland to Phú Quý Island, the maritime authority requires all children to purchase tickets in order to control passenger information.

Each infant or child must be accompanied by an adult. The accompanying adult must be at least 18 years old.

One adult can accompany a maximum of:

  • 1 infant and 1 child under 6 years old; or
  • 2 children aged from 2 to under 6 years old; and/or
  • an unlimited number of children aged 6 and above.

The person bringing the child to the ferry terminal must prepare valid identification documents that match the information provided when booking the service.

Parents or guardians should prepare the child’s documents in advance to present during check-in before the ferry departure.

Travel Tips for Families with Young Children Visiting Phú Quý

Choosing Accommodation: It’s best to stay in hotels near the town center for easy access to sightseeing spots in Phú Quý. The town center also offers more restaurants and services, which is convenient if your child needs anything extra or wants a late-night snack. Currently, there are many hotels along these roads, with prices ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 VND per room. If your family has 3–4 members including a baby, consider renting a Family room for more space!

Food: Phú Quý has many restaurants serving rice, porridge, hotpot, and a wide variety of dishes, so you don’t need to worry much about food when traveling here. If your baby isn’t eating solid food yet, you can ask the restaurant to prepare porridge or soup specially for them.

Activities for Children to Participate in on Phú Quý

Swimming at the beach: Phú Quý’s beaches are very clean, and most have gentle waves, so you can let your child enjoy swimming and experiencing nature.

Exploring Hòn Tranh: If your child is a bit older, you can take them to explore nearby small islands such as Hòn Tranh. These islands have rich ecosystems with diverse flora and fauna. You can introduce these to your child to broaden their understanding of nature.

Grilling seafood on the beach: This is a fun activity for kids. Your family can buy fresh seafood, then together collect firewood, build a fire, grill the seafood, and enjoy eating right there. This activity also helps strengthen family bonds!

Additional Tips

When traveling with children to Phú Quý, parents should prepare hats, sunscreen, insect repellent, long-sleeve shirts, and jackets for the kids because the weather on Phú Quý is very hot during the day but cool and windy at night.

What Documents Do Children Need to Take the Ferry?

Currently, high-speed ferry companies require parents to provide their child’s birth certificate information before issuing tickets. Therefore, when taking the ferry, bring the child’s birth certificate.

For children under 12 years old, either the original or a certified copy of the birth certificate and the ferry ticket are needed. Note that children’s age is calculated based on the ferry departure date, and children must have a reserved seat and travel accompanied by an adult.
